The Red Pyramid
Carter and Sadie Kane barely know each other: he travels the world with their Egyptologist father, while she lives in London with their grandparents.
About
The Red Pyramid is a fantasy adventure novel by Rick Riordan, published in 2010, based on Egyptian mythology and the first book of The Kane Chronicles. It follows Carter and Sadie Kane, two children who discover that their family's history lies in the magic of ancient Egypt rather than in a museum.
Carter has travelled with his father, the Egyptologist Julius Kane, and Sadie has grown up in London with their grandparents, so the novel begins with the first evening the two of them have spent in the same place for years. The ritual their father performs in the British Museum releases the god Set and the other imprisoned deities, and the pair have to learn magic quickly to stop what has been started.
Riordan had already written a series based on Greek myth, and this one moves to the Egyptian material, with the narrative alternating between the two siblings as each tells part of the story. The book appeared in hardcover, ebook and audiobook editions and in translation, and it began the Kane Chronicles.
