About
The New Girl is a horror novel by R. L. Stine published under the name Robert Lawrence Stine, and it opens the Fear Street sequence.
Cory Brooks is a high-school student who becomes obsessed with Anna Corwin, a new arrival at his school. Anna is as pale as a ghost, with blond hair and light blue eyes, and she is as drawn to him as he is to her. He stops sleeping and starts avoiding his friends, and the people around him notice. Then Anna vanishes as suddenly as she appeared, and to find out what has happened to her and to get her out of his head, Cory has to go to her house on Fear Street, whatever the consequences turn out to be.
The book sets up a long run of stories in which the street and the town of Shadyside are the setting. The town the street belongs to is Shadyside, and Cory's friends watch him come apart over Anna long before he admits anything is wrong.
