About
The Lincoln Lawyer is a legal thriller by the American writer Michael Connelly, published in 2005. It is the first book in the Mickey Haller series, and Haller is the half-brother of Connelly's earlier detective, Harry Bosch.
Haller defends people who are usually guilty, and he works from the back seat of his car, moving between the courthouses of Los Angeles with a phone in each hand. His job is bargaining rather than truth-seeking, and he is good at it.
Then a wealthy young man accused of attacking a woman he met in a bar asks for Haller by name, and the case looks like the one that will set him up for life. What Haller has spent his career afraid of is failing to recognise innocence, and what he should have been watching for is something else.
Connelly was already known for his Bosch novels when he introduced Haller, who became a series character in his own right. The book was adapted into a film in 2011 and a television series in 2022.
