The Last Vampire
Alisa is five thousand years old and has been a vampire for most of that time.
About
The Last Vampire is a novel for young readers by the American writer Christopher Pike, published in 1994 and the first book in a series about Alisa.
Alisa's business in the city begins with a private investigator who invited her to his office and a computer she needs to get into, and it continues with a name borrowed from a school register. She presents herself as a teenager, which is close to the truth about how she looks, and finds herself befriending Ray and Seymour without meaning to; one of them has a father with access to records she wants. When the men who set the trap come back, she deals with them in a way that makes clear what she is capable of. Between the present-day chapters the novel goes back to India in 3000 BC, where Alisa was born and where a vampire called Yaksha changed her, and those sections explain both her strength and her grief.
It was the first of a series of short novels, and it set out the rules and the history that the later books depend on.
