About
The King's Pleasure is a historical romance by the American writer Heather Graham, published in 1998. It moves between the Scottish Highlands, the Tower of London and France at war.
Danielle D'Aville is the ward of King Edward III, and the King orders her to marry the man she regards as her enemy: Adrien MacLachlan, the Scottish knight who planned and led the attack that brought down Aville, the home she loved and lost. The marriage is one that neither of them wanted, and it makes her the wife of an arrogant soldier she has sworn to despise. She is then taken north to his castle in the Scottish Highlands, away from the court and the country she grew up in, and the novel follows what happens between two people who are, as the story puts it, destined to love in a divided land. The setting moves between the Highlands and the politics of the English court and the war in France, and the marriage sits inside the larger conflict between the two kingdoms.
Graham writes historical romances across several periods and settings, and this one is set in the fourteenth century.
