The Invasion
Jake is an ordinary kid in an ordinary suburb until a creature from space finds him and his friends and gives them a power nobody should have: the ability to take the shape of any animal they touch.
About
The Invasion is the first book of Animorphs, the science fiction series written by Katherine Applegate under the house name K. A. Applegate and published by Scholastic from 1996.
Jake is a suburban teenager whose life changes on a single night, when he and four friends meet a creature from space who has come to Earth with a warning and a gift. The gift is the power to morph, to take the form of any animal they can touch, and the warning is that the planet is already being invaded in a way that makes armies irrelevant and ordinary people dangerous. Jake, Rachel, Cassie, Tobias and Marco become the Animorphs, a group of children with one advantage and no training, and the first book establishes both the rules of the shape-changing and the awkward fact that the enemy may be closer than any of them wants to admit.
The series ran to dozens of volumes, and it is written throughout from the point of view of a different member of the group.
