The Icebound Land
After the battle with Lord Morgarath, Will and Evanlyn are taken prisoner and shipped north to Skandia aboard a wolfship.
About
The Icebound Land is a fantasy novel for young readers by the Australian writer John Flanagan, published in 2007 and the third book in the Ranger's Apprentice series.
Will is an apprentice ranger and Evanlyn is a princess in disguise, and both of them end up as slaves in a cold country where the work is hard and the food is not enough. Halt's journey after them is the other half of the book: he has broken his oath to the corps to go looking, and he and Horace travel through country where freelance knights make a living by challenging travellers. Flanagan writes the two strands in short chapters, and the training Will has had matters less in slavery than his ability to keep his head down and to work out who can be trusted. The series is set in an invented world closely modelled on medieval Europe, with rangers who serve as scouts, archers and spies.
It followed The Ruins of Gorlan and The Burning Bridge, and the story continues in the next volume.
