The Husband Trap
Violet Brantford has spent years in the shadow of her twin sister Jeannette and in love with the man Jeannette is going to marry, which is a situation she has learned to live with.
About
The Husband Trap is a historical romance by the American writer Tracy Anne Warren, published in 2006 and the first book of her Trap trilogy.
Violet Brantford is the quiet twin. Her sister Jeannette is the one everybody looks at, and Jeannette is engaged to Adrian Winter, the Duke of Raeburn, who is the man Violet has been in love with for years without saying so. On the morning of the wedding Jeannette decides she will not go through with it and disappears, and Violet is pushed into the ceremony in her place, which leaves her married to the duke under a name that is not hers. The novel then has to deal with the consequences: a husband who believes he has married one sister, a wife who has to keep the pretence up in front of a household and a society that is watching, and the question of how the two of them can ever get past the beginning they were given.
It opens a trilogy about the same pair of sisters and the people around them, and the books that follow work out what the wedding set in motion.
