The Hellion and the Highlander
Lady Averill Mortagne has spent years learning to control a fierce temper, and her father's habit of parading her in front of English lords who look sideways at her flame-coloured hair is testing it.
About
The Hellion and the Highlander is a historical romance by the Canadian writer Lynsay Sands, published in 2010. It belongs to her Devil of the Highlands series.
Lady Averill Mortagne learned as a young girl to control a fierce temper, and she is close to losing her patience with a father who insists on presenting her to one English lord after another, each of whom looks askance at her flame-coloured hair. The one relief in her life is the company of Kade Stewart, a wounded Scottish warrior her brother brought home from the Crusades, and she is the one who helped to save his life. Kade is grateful for that, and he finds her almost unbearably beautiful as well, but he does not believe he could put a sweet and gentle lady through the rough life of a Stewart laird's bride. The novel follows the two of them as Averill shows him what she is actually made of, and it is set between an English household and the Scottish Highlands.
Averill's temper is known to her family, and it is the reason her father's programme of introductions goes so badly. Sands writes historical romances with a good deal of comedy in them, and the books in this series are connected by the Highland family at their centre.
