The Heart Forger

The Heart Forger is a young adult fantasy novel by the American writer Rin Chupeco, published by Sourcebooks in 2018 as the second book in the series that began with The Bone Witch.

Tea is a bone witch. She can call the dead back and, in exchange, take life out of the living, and she has spent her exile learning what that power is for. Her heart is set on revenge against the royals who wronged her and who took the person she loved, and with the daeva, the monstrous creatures she has bound to her, she finally has the means to act.

She is not the only one with plans. Others want her magic for their own ends, and the kingdoms around her are moving towards war while the dark magic she commands makes demands of its own. Tea narrates her story in hindsight, which gives the book the shape of a confession: she is telling the reader how she came to do what she did, and what it cost.
