The Good, the Bad, and the Undead
Rachel Morgan is a witch and an independent bounty hunter, and she spends her nights in downtown Cincinnati among the creatures of the night.
About
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead is a novel by Kim Harrison, published in 2005 and set in Cincinnati. Its central character, Rachel Morgan, is a witch and an independent bounty hunter.
Her work takes her through the darkest parts of the city, where she deals with vampires and, when she has to, with demons. She is presented as capable of handling most of what she runs into, which is what makes this case different from the others.
A serial killer is working through the people who are experts in the most dangerous kind of black magic, feeding on them as he goes. That places the killer inside Rachel's professional world rather than outside it, and it makes the hunt personal in a way her ordinary work is not.
The novel belongs to the Hollows sequence, in which the supernatural population is part of an ordinary modern city, and it turns on what a bounty hunter does when the person she is tracking knows the same craft she does.
