Okiku has been dead for centuries and spends her time hunting the living who murder the innocent and freeing the ghosts of their victims.

About

The Girl from the Well is a horror novel by Rin Chupeco.

Okiku is a ghost who has been walking the world for centuries. Her work is to take the lives of murderers, giving them the vengeance they have earned, and to release the ghosts of the people those murderers killed. When she comes across Tark, a teenage boy with a set of elaborate tattoos and a mood that keeps people at a distance, she recognises at once that he is not one of the monsters she hunts. Something else is hanging on him, and it means him harm, and getting him free of it is what draws her into his life.

The novel's headings list ghosts, revenge, good and evil and horror stories. The story comes out of the Japanese ghost tradition, and the book is written for older readers, with violence and profanity in it.
