The City of Mirrors
The twelve original creatures have been destroyed, along with most of the viral population they created, and the survivors on the continent are beginning to build something.
About
The City of Mirrors is a horror novel by the American writer Justin Cronin, published in 2016 and the last book of The Passage trilogy.
It picks up where The Twelve ended, after the destruction of the hives, and then does something unexpected with the quiet that follows: it spends a long stretch of the book explaining its own beginning, going back to the man called Subject Zero, who was the first to be changed in the early part of this century, and who has been present in the background of the story all along. Cronin alternates that history with the present, where Alicia Donadio, whose child did not survive, sets out after him, and Michael Fisher takes a boat around the continent to find the mines that were supposed to have sealed the contaminated zones and discovers that much of the world is gone and the mines are not there. The trilogy then jumps nine hundred years to show what became of the human species, which is the ending the earlier two volumes were building towards. The film rights to the three novels were bought in 2007 for a trilogy of films and, after twelve years, became a television series that began in January 2019.
