Tempt Me at Twilight
Poppy Hathaway loves her unconventional family, though what she longs for herself is an ordinary life.
About
Tempt Me at Twilight is a historical romance by the American writer Lisa Kleypas, published in 2009. It is one of the novels about the Hathaway family.
Poppy Hathaway is fond of her unconventional family, but what she wants for herself is a normal life, and the meeting that changes her plans is with Harry Rutledge, a hotel owner and inventor who has wealth and power and a hidden side to the way he lives. Their flirtation is noticed, and once Poppy's reputation is compromised she accepts his proposal of marriage, which surprises the people around her as much as it surprises her. What she discovers afterwards is that her new husband is willing to offer her his passion but not his trust, because he has spent his life holding the world at a distance. An enemy is also working against them, and the novel follows what it takes for Harry to make the marriage a real one rather than an arrangement. It is set in the social world of the period, which is what makes the compromise of Poppy's reputation so serious.
Kleypas wrote the Hathaway novels as a connected series, and each of them follows a different member of the family.
