Tell No One
Eight years ago David Beck was knocked unconscious and left for dead, and his wife Elizabeth was kidnapped and murdered.
About
Tell No One is a thriller novel by the American writer Harlan Coben, published in 2001. It was his third stand-alone novel and his first since 1991, his previous seven books having all belonged to the Myron Bolitar series.
David and Elizabeth Beck were both twenty-five and had been married for less than a year when they went back to the secluded lake where they had first kissed. Elizabeth was abducted there and later murdered, and although her killer was found and prosecuted, David never recovered from it. Eight years on, on the anniversary of her death, two long-dead bodies are unearthed at the same lake, and he receives an anonymous email directing him to a website at a particular time with a code that only he and his wife could have known; the webcam image that appears is of Elizabeth. As he tries to find out whether she is alive and what really happened that night, the FBI works to pin the murder on him, and the people he approaches for help have a way of ending up dead.
Coben had written a long-running series before this book, and he has said that the idea behind Tell No One was one that simply would not work for his series detective, which is why it became a stand-alone novel. It was his first book to reach the New York Times best-seller list.
