About
Taken by the Laird is a historical romance by the American writer Margo Maguire, published in 2009. It is the second book of her Regency Flings series.
Brianna Munro is a young lady who escapes to Scotland in the middle of the night in order to avoid a marriage her guardian has arranged against her wishes. Travelling alone and fearing for her safety, she finds shelter at the imposing Castle Glenloch, intending to stay for a single night, and then she meets Hugh Christie, the laird, and her plan to move on quietly becomes harder to keep. She tells him that she is a lady's maid on her way to Dundee, running from a vengeful employer, and he can see plainly that she is not telling him everything. The novel follows what happens when a man who is used to taking what he wants is faced with a woman who is pretending to be somebody else, and it is set in the Scottish Highlands.
Maguire writes historical romances set in the Regency period and in medieval Scotland, and this one belongs to a short series of connected books.
