Star Wars - Dawn of the Jedi - Into the Void
On the planet Tython, long before the Jedi Order of the films existed, the Je'daii order was founded and its masters taught the mysteries of the Force.
About
Into the Void is a novel by the British writer Tim Lebbon, published by Del Rey in 2013. It belongs to the Dawn of the Jedi sequence, which is set thousands of years before the films, and to the earlier material in the Star Wars timeline.
The book takes place on Tython, the planet where the Je'daii order was founded and where its masters trained students in the methods of the Force. Lanoree Brock is one of those students, skilled enough to be trusted with work that matters, and her brother is the problem she cannot solve. He has no talent for the Force at all, which in a family and a society built around it makes him an outsider, and the contempt he develops for the order hardens into something that puts him beyond it. The novel sends Lanoree after her brother, and the story is as much about the assumptions the Je'daii make about the Force and about themselves as it is about the pursuit.
The book belongs to the earliest end of the Star Wars timeline, which lets it work with the Force and the order that studies it before either has settled into the shape the films describe.
