Star Wars - Bloodline
Twenty-five years after the defeat of the Empire, Leia Organa sits in a Senate that can barely pass a motion, split between planets that want their own authority and those who want a strong centre.
About
Star Wars: Bloodline is a science fiction novel by the American writer Claudia Gray, published by Del Rey Books on 3 May 2016.
The book is set twenty-five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and six years before The Force Awakens, in a New Republic whose Senate has become part of the problem. Leia Organa, now in her late forties, is a senator frustrated by a chamber divided between the Populists, who want individual planets to govern themselves, and the Centrists, who want a stronger central government, and that deadlock means almost nothing is decided. Word reaches her that the waning influence of the Hutts has left room for a new criminal organisation, and the investigation she begins in order to find out who is behind it ends by exposing the secret of her parentage to her colleagues and changing her position in the Senate.
The novel fills in the political failure that the later stories answer with the Resistance, and it is one of several books by Gray set in the same period of the Star Wars story.
