Song of Susannah
Susannah, now pregnant, has another personality taking control of her.
About
Song of Susannah is the sixth volume of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, published in 2004. Grant, and the subjects attach horror fiction, dark fantasy, supernatural fiction, wolves and Roland to the work.
The book divides its characters across two periods and places. Susannah, pregnant, is taken over by another personality called Mia, who uses her and Black Thirteen to travel to New York in 1999, while Jake, Oy and Pere Callahan set out to rescue her. Roland and Eddie travel instead to Maine in 1977, so the two groups are separated by decades as well as by geography. Mia is the personality who has taken control, and the bargain she has made is for a child rather than for Susannah's own future.
What ties the strands together is a vacant lot in New York, which the copy identifies as the prize that must be saved. Because the two halves of the cast are in different times, the novel's difficulty is coordination rather than combat, and it sits immediately before the final volume of the sequence, so much of its work is to place the remaining pieces.
