Siege and Storm
Alina and Mal have crossed the sea to get away from Ravka and are trying to live quietly in a country where nobody knows her, because Alina is the Sun Summoner and half the world is looking for her.
About
Siege and Storm is a fantasy novel by the American writer Leigh Bardugo, published by Macmillan in June 2013 and the second book of the Shadow and Bone trilogy.
The novel begins with Alina and Mal across the True Sea, living in a place where Alina is not recognised, because being recognised is dangerous for the Sun Summoner. Alina is also carrying what she did on the Fold, where people died, and the memory of it is not something she can leave behind. The quiet arrangement does not last: an encounter with the Darkling and his soldiers forces them onto the Bone Road in search of something that might change their situation. The story is told in the first person, and much of it concerns what Alina is prepared to become in order to be able to fight. The voyage along the Bone Road is a search for another of Morozova's amplifiers, and the last book of the trilogy, Ruin and Rising, followed in June 2014.
It is the middle volume of the trilogy, and it takes Alina back towards the country she had been trying to leave.
