Seize the Night

Seize the Night is a paranormal romance by the American writer Sherrilyn Kenyon, published in 2004. It belongs to her Dark-Hunter series, and it is written largely in the voice of its male lead.

Valerius was born the noble son of a legendary Roman senator and walked through the ancient world as a general and as a god. Through an act of brutal betrayal he bound himself to a goddess so that he could protect humanity from the evil that haunts it, and he has spent the centuries since killing vampires.

Now he finds himself dating one. A self-styled vampire slayer stabbed him and then turned out to be Tabitha Devereaux, a human who has trained herself to fight vampires as well as any immortal and who is unlike anyone he has known. The novel works on the mismatch between two people who ought to be enemies and on the attraction that neither of them can reason away. Both of them are used to dangerous work, and neither of them is used to needing anybody.
