Seeing Redd
Alyss is Queen of Wonderland, and the people who prefer chaos to peace are already trying to destroy what she has built.
About
Seeing Redd is a novel by Frank Beddor, published in 2007, and the second book of The Looking Glass Wars trilogy, which is inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice books.
Alyss of Wonderland has only just begun to rule, and the enemies of order are already at work. She is trailed everywhere by her newly appointed Royal Bodyguard, Homburg Molly, which makes it difficult to find a private moment with Dodge, and she is trying to keep pace with the non-stop demands of being Queen while a series of phantom sightings sets off an urban myth about the return of her aunt Redd. Because Redd's cruelty is well remembered, the mere rumour of her presence is enough to destabilise the kingdom, and Alyss has to work out whether the sightings are a real threat or a piece of political theatre. The novel continues the trilogy's arrangement of imagination as a physical power, contested by people who would use it to rule rather than to build.
Beddor writes the series as a fast adventure for younger readers, with a heroine whose authority is new and whose enemies know her weaknesses.
