About
Season of Storms is a fantasy novel by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, first published in 2013 and part of the Witcher series.
The book does not continue the main saga: it is set between the short stories of the first collection, at a point when the witcher is doing contract work and has not yet been drawn into the affairs of politics and prophecy. Geralt's trouble begins with a hunt that ends badly and with an arrest during which two swords, which are the tools of his trade and something more than equipment, are taken from him. Getting them back requires the help of the poet Dandelion, a relationship with the sorceress known as Coral, and the grudging co-operation of several people who would rather he left. Sapkowski writes the world as a place of rumours, contracts and double-dealing, and the witcher as a professional who is very good at the immediate problem and no good at all at the politics around it.
It is the last of the Witcher books to appear, and its events sit earlier in the chronology than most of them.
