Sarah
Sarai is a princess of Ur in Mesopotamia, and a serious, dutiful one compared with her older sister Qira, who is to marry a desert prince named Lot.
About
Sarah is a novel by the American writer Orson Scott Card, published in 2000 by Shadow Mountain. It is the first book of his Women of Genesis series, which retells stories from the book of Genesis from the point of view of the women in them.
The biblical account of Sarah's life is contained in the chapters of Genesis that deal mainly with Abraham, and Card expands it into a full novel. Sarai, as she is named at the start, is a princess of Ur in Mesopotamia: hard-working, modest, and an easier daughter than her older sister Qira, who is contracted to marry a desert prince called Lot. Sarai's future has been settled in another direction, as a priestess of the goddess Asherah, and that plan changes when Lot arrives at the palace with his uncle Abram, who promises Sarai that he will return and marry her.
The novel keeps to the outline of the Genesis story while filling in the details of the household, the marriages and the journeys that surround it, and the later books in the series turn the same treatment on other women of the same narrative.
