Sandworms of Dune
The passengers of the no-ship Ithaca have been searching for a new home for nearly two decades, carrying among them revivals of figures from the long history of their species while an old enemy hunts them through the darkness.
About
Sandworms of Dune is a science fiction novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, published in 2007. It is the second of the two books they wrote to complete Frank Herbert's Dune sequence, and it draws on notes he left for a seventh novel.
The book follows the no-ship Ithaca, whose passengers have spent almost twenty years looking for a world where they can settle, pursued through the void by an enemy that can see further than they can. Among the people on board are gholas of central figures from the earlier books, revived from genetic material and facing lives that are partly their own and partly a repetition. Elsewhere in the remains of the Old Empire, a mother commander works to assemble a human alliance for a final defence against the thinking machines, while infiltrators have taken the places of people in the organisations she is trying to hold together. The novel ties the threads of the Butlerian Jihad and the original Dune novels into a single conclusion.
Frank Herbert's Dune series had been left unfinished at his death, and these two volumes were written to bring it to an end.
