Revival
In a small Maine town, a Methodist minister arrives with his wife and son and makes himself loved, and a boy named Jamie Morton watches him use electricity to do something that should not have been possible.
About
Revival is a horror novel by the American writer Stephen King, published on 11 November 2014 by Scribner. It tells the story of a former minister who becomes obsessed with electricity and of the man who knew him as a child, and King has said it was inspired by Arthur Machen's The Great God Pan and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
Charles Jacobs comes to a parish in Harlow, Maine, as its new Methodist minister, and the town takes to him, to his wife Patsy and to their small son Morrie. In the youth fellowship he runs for the town's children he shares his enthusiasm for electricity with them, and when Jamie's older brother Conrad is left unable to speak by a skiing accident, Jacobs fits a low-voltage belt around his neck and restores his voice.
What follows in the novel is a long friendship and a long separation, as Jamie grows up and Jacobs' life comes apart, and the two of them arrive at a shared interest in what lies beyond the ordinary working of the world.
