Renegades
Nova was raised by the Anarchists after her parents were murdered, and now she is expected to work her way inside the Renegades, the syndicate of people with extraordinary abilities who have kept order in the city since the civil conflict that first brought them to power.
About
Renegades is a 2017 dystopian science fiction novel by the American writer Marissa Meyer, published by Feiwel & Friends and the first book of the Renegades trilogy. It was followed by Archenemies, and it reached number two on the New York Times bestseller list within two weeks of publication.
The setting is a city that has been governed since a period of civil conflict by the Renegades, a syndicate of people with extraordinary abilities who present themselves as society's protectors and the natural enemies of everyone else with powers. Nova is the niece of Alec Artino, the leader of the Anarchists, who took her in after her parents were killed and raised her within the movement. She can put people to sleep with a touch of her skin, she has not slept herself since her parents died, and she wants revenge. Using the name Nightmare, she takes on the job of getting close to the Renegades, where she meets Adrian, a young man who has his own reasons for belonging to the organisation.
The book alternates between the two of them rather than treating either side of the city's divide as simply villainous, and Meyer built the trilogy around that split.
