Rapture of the Deep
Jacky Faber is on her way home to marry the man she has loved for years when British Naval Intelligence takes her off the ship and hands her another assignment.
About
Rapture of the Deep is a historical novel by L. A. Meyer, published in 2009. It is the seventh book of the Bloody Jack series, which follows a teenage girl named Jacky Faber through the early years of the nineteenth century as a sailor, a soldier, a mermaid and a spy.
Jacky has been in Paris, working as a nightclub dancer and carrying messages for Napoleon, and the book opens minutes after the end of the previous one, with her schooner, the Nancy B. Alsop, coming to collect her. She is reunited with Jaimy and they arrange to marry in England, but the wedding is interrupted by British Intelligence, who have a use for her.
The ship they want found, the Santa Magdalena, went down in 1733 with a cargo of gold coins, and Britain wants the money. Jacky is promised a percentage and a possible pardon from the king despite her history of piracy, and she and Jaimy are given separate ships for the search off Havana. The books that follow this one are The Wake of the Lorelei Lee and The Mark of the Golden Dragon.
