Prisoner of Desire
Anya Hamilton takes Ravel Duralde prisoner to prevent a duel she is certain will kill her sister's fiance.
About
Prisoner of Desire is a historical romance by Jennifer Blake, published in 1986 and the fourth of her Louisiana History novels.
Anya Hamilton is convinced that a duel will kill her sister's fiance, so she takes the man who would be fighting it, Ravel Duralde, as her prisoner and holds him in a small, bare room on her Louisiana plantation. The arrangement does not work as she intended. In that room it is Anya who becomes a captive: Ravel awakens appetites she has spent her life keeping under control and satisfies them, and her protests are no match for what her body keeps telling her. She returns to his room again and again, and the novel runs the affair alongside the political and family quarrels that produced the duel in the first place. Both of them also have to stay alive long enough to enjoy what they have found, which is not a trivial problem in a Louisiana full of men with grievances and weapons.
Blake wrote a long series of romances set in Louisiana, and this one uses the pre-war plantation setting for a story about a woman who takes a hostage and loses her composure instead of her prisoner.
