Tally Youngblood has been through the operation that turns sixteen-year-olds into Pretties, and she now spends her days at parties with a brain that has been arranged to keep her happy.

About

Pretties is a young adult science fiction novel by the American writer Scott Westerfeld, published in 2005 as the second book of the Uglies trilogy.

In this world everyone is made Pretty at sixteen by an operation, and Tally has just had it done. She lives among the parties, the clothes and the happy thoughts that are supposed to follow, and finds that the change has not closed everything down: memories of the Smoke keep surfacing, along with the sense that her life was decided for her by somebody else. A message reaches her from the Smoke, and she and her new boyfriend take a pill meant to clear their heads, then begin to plan something considerably more dangerous than either of them expected.

The city she lives in was built for the Pretties, and everything in it is arranged to keep her from asking questions.
