Pawn of Prophecy
Garion grows up on a quiet farm with his Aunt Pol and does not believe in magic or in the prophecies the storytellers bring with them.
About
Pawn of Prophecy is a fantasy novel by the American writer David Eddings, published in 1982 as the first book of the Belgariad.
The history behind the story runs for seven thousand years and concerns gods and kings: the evil god Torak once sought dominion and drove men and gods into war, until Belgarath the Sorcerer led the men of the West to take back the Orb that protected them, with the promise that men would be safe while it stayed at Riva. Garion has been raised on a farm by his Aunt Pol and treats the whole account as a story. He does not believe in magic or in dooms, even though a dark man who casts no shadow has been watching him for years. Then the people he has always trusted take him away from the farm and set out on a journey they do not fully explain, because the Apostate intends to wake Torak.
The novel opens a sequence of five books.
