Pandora
David Talbot meets Pandora in a Paris cafe and is given the account of her two thousand years of life.
About
Pandora is a vampire novel by Anne Rice, published in 1998 and one of the two books in her New Tales of the Vampires series, alongside Vittorio the Vampire. It is written as the memoir of its title character, told to David Talbot, and it belongs to the same world as the Vampire Chronicles.
Pandora was born in the Roman Republic with the name Lydia, into a senatorial family, and the novel follows her from that life to the moment she is made a vampire by Marius, the ancient who stays in her history across the centuries. Her account is a first-person record of two thousand years, of Rome and the cities that follow it, and of a relationship that outlasts the institutions around it.
Rice had built a large readership with her vampire novels, and this book is shorter and more directly told than the central sequence, using one voice and one viewpoint. It was issued in large print as well as in standard editions, and it extended the series alongside Vittorio the Vampire.
