Colby Lane has left his years as a mercenary behind and taken a job running security for an oil company, and then a drug trafficker brings him back into the world he left.
About
Outsider is a romance novel by the American writer Diana Palmer, published by HQN.
Colby Lane worked as an operative for the CIA and then as a mercenary, and he has settled into a quieter job as assistant head of security for a large oil company. The past catches up with him when he is drawn into a plan to catch a drug trafficker, and the investigation brings him back to Sarina Carrington, the wife he walked out on after a single day of marriage. She is more involved in the case than she admits to him. She also has a six-year-old daughter, and the question of who the girl's father is does not get answered straight away.
It is one of the author's longer contemporary romances, and it carries the investigation and the marriage in the same story.
