Only Mine
Wolfe Lonetree is the bastard son of a viscount and a Cheyenne shaman's daughter, and he agrees to rescue the pampered Lady Jessica Charteris from an unwanted wedding on one condition: that she become his wife.
About
Only Mine is a historical romance novel by Ann Maxwell, published in 1991. Its leading man, Wolfe Lonetree, is the bastard son of a viscount and a Cheyenne shaman's daughter, and its leading woman is Lady Jessica Charteris.
Jessica has signed herself up for a marriage she did not intend, because she tricked a rugged stranger into a union in name only as a way of escaping a wedding to a man she describes as vile. Wolfe's price for rescuing her is that she marry him and mean it, and she accepts without understanding what she has agreed to. The bargain is settled on his terms rather than hers, and she has no idea yet what living in America will ask of her.
What waits for her is America rather than England, a life at the edge of the Rockies and hardships that her upbringing has given her no preparation for. Wolfe is another of the things she is unprepared for, and the novel sets her terror of the country against the fact that the whole arrangement was her own idea.
