One Kiss from You
A woman known as the duchess of Magnus is wagered and lost in a card game, and the man who won her expects to marry her.
About
One Kiss from You is a historical romance by the American writer Christina Dodd, published in 2003 and part of her Switching Places series.
The premise is a wager: a woman known in society as the duchess of Magnus is staked in a card game and lost, and the winner, Remington Knight, expects her to marry him. The cousin who arrives to keep the appointment is Eleanor de Lacy, who has agreed to take her relative's place, and her problem is that she has to maintain the deception with a man who is charming, determined and increasingly attractive to her. The novel follows the two of them through a courtship in which one of them knows exactly what is happening and the other is being managed, and the question of what will happen when the truth comes out is what keeps the book moving. Dodd wrote the series around the device of exchanged identities, and this is the second of the books.
The trick of the swapped identity is the one the whole series is built on, and the first book takes a different pair of women through the same manoeuvre.
