Night Fall
A couple on a Long Island beach are filming each other when an explosion lights up the sky and something appears to rise from the sea towards a plane.
About
Night Fall is a novel by the American writer Nelson DeMille, published in 2004 and one of the books about the detective John Corey.
The novel begins with the crash of TWA Flight 800 in 1996 and with an adulterous couple who happen to be filming on the beach and leave with the camera. Five years later Corey works for an anti-terrorist task force and his wife Kate worked on the official investigation, which concluded that a mechanical failure brought the aircraft down. Neither of them believes it, and the search for the missing tape becomes a search for a witness and then for the people who would prefer that neither the tape nor the witness was ever found. DeMille mixes the real inquiry with the invented one, and Corey's running commentary keeps the book funny while what it describes gets steadily worse.
It follows The Lion's Game and brings back several characters from the earlier books, including one of the series' most persistent antagonists, who is now working in the same building.
