Navigators of Dune
Set nearly a century after the events of Dune: The Battle of Corrin, this is the third book of the Great Schools of Dune trilogy, which follows the founding years of the organisations that will matter in Frank Herbert's Dune.
About
Navigators of Dune is a science fiction novel by the American writers Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, published on 13 September 2016. It is set in the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert and is the third book of their Great Schools of Dune trilogy.
The trilogy is a prequel to the original Dune novels and chronicles the early years of several organisations that later become central to them: the Bene Gesserit sisterhood and its breeding programme, the human computers known as Mentats, and the Spacing Guild with its Navigators. This final volume is set almost a century after Dune: The Battle of Corrin, and the schools are struggling against independent anti-technology forces whose influence has grown in the aftermath of the Butlerian Jihad. The trilogy presents the period as a contest over the future of the human race, with the schools on one side and the opponents of thinking machines on the other, and this book brings that argument to its conclusion as each school tries to secure its own survival.
Herbert and Anderson had already written the Legends of Dune trilogy before this sequence, and the two sets of books together cover the centuries between the Butlerian Jihad and the era of Frank Herbert's novels. Anderson had announced a different title for the third book before it was renamed Navigators of Dune ahead of publication.
