Lovesong
Carolina Lightfoot is a colonial beauty who sets her heart on Lord Thomas Angevine, the most notorious rake in London, and the scandal that follows sends her back to Virginia.
About
Lovesong is a historical romance by the American writer Valerie Sherwood, published in 1985 and the first book of her Song trilogy.
Carolina Lightfoot is a young woman from the American colonies whose ambitions are fixed on Lord Thomas Angevine, a London nobleman with the worst reputation in the city, and the scandal that grows out of her pursuit of him ends with her sent back to Virginia. Her journey home is interrupted by buccaneers, and she is taken to the island of Tortuga in the Caribbean, where she becomes the prisoner of a man named Kells whose history is not explained to her. The novel moves between the colonial world of Virginia, the polite society of London and the lawless economy of the Caribbean, and it is written at the length and pace of the romantic sagas of its decade.
It is the first of three novels about the same woman, and the books that follow carry her story on through the Caribbean and back to the American colonies. The trilogy was published over three years in the middle of the 1980s.
