Love Is Blind
Adrian Montfort, Earl of Mowbray, has been warned that Lady Clarissa Crambray is dangerous: she steps on toes and sets things alight, and she has earned a nickname for the mayhem she causes.
About
Love Is Blind is a historical romance by the Canadian writer Lynsay Sands, published in 2006.
Lady Clarissa Crambray is short-sighted, and the spectacles that let her see are not the sort of thing a young woman is expected to wear in public; without them she causes a good deal of damage at social events, which is how she acquires her nickname. Her mother is determined to find her a husband, and Clarissa would like one too, if only to escape the pressure, and she has grown used to watching the suitors her mother produces withdraw in alarm. Adrian Montfort, the Earl of Mowbray, is a veteran of the Napoleonic wars who has been warned about her and treats her reputation as a challenge rather than a warning. The novel follows what happens when he leads her onto the dance floor, and it is set in the society of the period, where a young woman's prospects depend on being seen to behave correctly.
Sands wrote a number of historical romances in this vein, and the comedy in this one comes from an accident-prone heroine and a damaged soldier who decides to take her on.
