Lisey's Story
Two years after her husband's death, Lisey Landon begins clearing out the office of the bestselling novelist Scott Landon.
About
Lisey's Story is a psychological horror novel by Stephen King, released on 24 October 2006. It is told from the point of view of Lisey Landon, the widow of a famous novelist, and it deals with what a long marriage looks like to the person who survives it.
Lisey decides to sort her husband's papers and is immediately pursued by people who want his unpublished work, among them an academic and a violent collector. The process also takes her back into Scott's childhood, the self-harm that marked it, and the place he escaped to inside his own head, which the novel renders as somewhere she can genuinely travel to.
King wrote the book out of his own experience of marriage and of illness, and it is a horror novel whose monsters are made largely of family history. An excerpt appeared earlier as a short story, Lisey and the Madman, published in a 2004 anthology, and the novel won the 2006 Bram Stoker Award for best novel and was nominated for the World Fantasy Award in 2007.
