Kiowa Trail
Kate Lundy owns the Tumbling B and Conn Dury is her foreman, and both of them told Tom the rules: men from the cattle drives are not allowed on the north side of town.
About
Kiowa Trail is a western novel by Louis L'Amour, published in 1964. Its central figures are Kate Lundy, who owns a ranch called the Tumbling B, and Conn Dury, her foreman.
The rules of the nearest town are explained to Kate's brother Tom: men who work the cattle drives are not permitted on the north side of town. The townspeople appreciated the money the cowboys spent while making it clear that they did not want them near their houses.
Tom was enticed across that line by Linda McDonald, the daughter of one of the town's leading citizens, and by the end of the night he was dead. Kate's response is to vow that she will destroy the entire town. She means it literally, and the town does not believe her.
Her revenge becomes more dangerous when Aaron McDonald sends east for an army of hired guns, and Dury and the men of the Tumbling B begin to wonder whether the price of what Kate wants is higher than any of them can pay.
