King's Cage
Mare Barrow was the lightning girl, and the third book of the Red Queen series begins with her a prisoner, her ability suppressed and her mistakes weighing on her.
About
King's Cage is a young adult fantasy novel by the American writer Victoria Aveyard, published in 2017 and the third book of the Red Queen series.
Mare Barrow begins the book as a prisoner. She has no lightning, she is kept inside a palace by people who decide what happens to her, and she is held there by Maven Calore, who was her friend and then her enemy and is now the king. She spends the early part of the novel under the weight of what she did in the previous volume. Meanwhile the newbloods and Reds she had been organising have not stopped: they are training and recruiting and preparing to fight in the open rather than from hiding, and Cal, the exiled prince, has his own claim on Mare and his own reasons for wanting the throne back.
It is the third of the four Red Queen books, and it moves between the palace and the camps where the rebellion is being organised.
