About
Kingdom of Ash is a fantasy novel by the American writer Sarah J. Maas, published in 2018. It is the conclusion of her Throne of Glass series.
Aelin Galathynius's story has taken her from slave to king's assassin, and by the time of this book she is the queen of a kingdom that was once great, with a war being fought across the whole of her world. She has risked everything to save her people and has paid a tremendous price for it, and much of the novel takes place with her imprisoned by the Queen of the Fae, who has locked her inside an iron coffin. Aelin draws on her own will to endure the months of torture that follow, because yielding to Maeve would doom the people she loves, and her resolve comes apart a little at a time. With her captured, Aedion and Lysandra are left as the last line of defence for Terrasen, and they discover that the allies they have gathered against Erawan's hordes may not be enough to save it. The fighting is spread across the continent, and the people who have been scattered by the war are trying to reach each other.
The Throne of Glass books follow one central character across a long series, and this volume closes the sequence with the war the earlier books had been moving towards.
