Jinx
Jean Honeychurch has been called Jinx since childhood, and misfortune does seem to follow her wherever she goes, including to New York City, where she has moved to escape a mess she caused at home.
About
Jinx is a novel for young adults by the American writer Meg Cabot, published in 2007. It is set in Manhattan, and its heroine has spent her life being told that she brings bad luck.
Jean Honeychurch dislikes her plain name and dislikes the nickname that goes with it. The name has followed her everywhere, and so has the bad luck, which is why she has left her small town and the enormous mess she made there and moved to New York.
Her aunt and uncle welcome her into their town house, but her cousin Tory, who is beautiful and used to being the centre of things, is not pleased to have her. Tory also has a secret, and it is a dangerous one. As Jean settles into a new school and a new city she realises that the misfortune she has been running from is not simply bad luck, and that whatever has been following her since she was born may be the only thing that can help her now.
