Icebreaker
Anastasia Allen has worked for years to reach a competitive figure skating team at a California university, and a facilities problem means she and her partner have to share the rink with the hockey team.
About
Hannah Grace's Icebreaker is set at the University of California at Maple Hills, where a competitive figure skater and a hockey captain end up training on the same ice. Anastasia Allen has spent years chasing a place on Team USA, and a full scholarship to Maple Hills and a spot on its competitive figure skating team make it look as though the plan is holding. Then a facilities mishap leaves the hockey team and the figure skaters dividing one rink between them. Nate Hawkins captains the hockey team, focused on keeping his players on the ice and on the season ahead, and Anastasia clearly cannot stand him.
Across the season the two of them share a rink, a training schedule and a campus, and the friction between them has to be managed rather than avoided. Partway through, doubt gathers around Anastasia's skating partner, and her own plans go with it, leaving her reliant on help from someone she would not have chosen.
Icebreaker is a new-adult sports romance, and the novel stays on a single campus and inside a single competitive season, with the ice shared between two teams that would rather not be sharing it.
