How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days
Edie was a ruined American heiress until the devil-may-care Duke of Margrave agreed to her proposal of a marriage of convenience.
About
How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days is a historical romance by the American writer Laura Lee Guhrke, published in 2014. It is part of her American Heiress in London series.
Edie was an American heiress whose reputation had been ruined when she met Stuart, the Duke of Margrave, and when he accepted her proposal of a marriage of convenience she was transformed from a disgraced heiress into an English duchess. Marrying an heiress allowed Stuart to pay off enormous family debts, and the term she attached to the arrangement was that he should leave England permanently, which he did. Five years later she is pleased with the bargain, most of all because her husband is on another continent. Then a brush with death sends him home, and he decides that he would like a real marriage after all, and offers her a new bargain: ten days in which to win a willing kiss from the wife he barely knows. The novel is built on the reversal of two people discovering that the terms they wrote into their agreement did not cover what they actually want.
Guhrke writes historical romances, and this is one of a series about American heiresses who marry into the English aristocracy.
