House
A husband and wife whose marriage is in trouble are stranded on a road in the middle of nowhere in Alabama, and they take shelter in what looks like a fine Victorian house.
About
House is a horror novel by the two American writers Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, published in 2006. It is loosely connected to Dekker's Books of History Chronicles.
Jack and Stephanie are a married couple whose relationship is failing, and they are driving through rural Alabama when they end up stranded beside the road. They come across a Victorian house that appears to offer them shelter and go inside it, and discover that it does not.
The house is run by a masked man called White, and what he wants from the two of them involves each of them dealing with what they have been carrying rather than simply getting out. Other characters appear inside the house and lead them through that process. Jack has to let go of the anger and the bitterness he holds against his wife for taking away the person he loved most, and Stephanie has to forgive herself, put down her regret and work out whether the two of them can love each other again. The story is set in the same universe as the Paradise novels, and White's part in it connects to the wider series.
