Halfway to the Grave
Catherine Crawfield is half vampire and spends her nights hunting the undead, hoping that one of them will turn out to be her father, the man responsible for ruining her mother's life.
About
Halfway to the Grave is a paranormal romance novel by Jeaniene Frost, published in 2007. Its central character, Catherine Crawfield, is half vampire and spends her time hunting the undead with a specific purpose in mind.
The purpose is her father, who is responsible for ruining her mother's life, and Cat's hope is that one of the vampires she kills will turn out to be him. Instead she is captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter who does not behave the way the vampires she has been hunting do.
Bones forces her into a partnership on his terms, offering to help her find her father in exchange for training her until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his. She is surprised to survive the arrangement and more surprised to find that she may have been wrong about what all vampires are like, and the book keeps the question of what her own half-dead state means in view.
The training is the part of the arrangement she did not expect to value, and it changes what she is able to do about the vampires she has been chasing. Her inheritance is the thing she cannot settle, and the book leaves her more capable and no less uncertain about it.
