French Silk
Claire Laurent has built French Silk, a successful lingerie company, out of nothing in New Orleans.
About
French Silk is a romantic thriller by the American writer Sandra Brown, published in 1992. It is set in New Orleans, and it uses the city's reputation for glamour and concealment as part of its atmosphere. Claire Laurent is a self-made woman in a city that keeps accounts of its own.
Claire Laurent founded French Silk, a lingerie company, and has fought to make it a success at home and abroad. A television evangelist attacks its erotic sleepwear as sinful, and he is found dead soon afterwards, which makes Claire the obvious suspect.
The district attorney prosecuting the case is Robert Cassidy, and he knows that Claire is damning herself with one lie after another. He also feels himself being drawn into her world at the same time as he is trying to convict her. Claire is beautiful, elusive and the founder of a company that has made her famous, and Cassidy cannot separate what he believes about the killing from what he wants to believe about her, or from the truth she has sworn to take to the grave.
