Finders Keepers
Morris Bellamy is a devoted reader of the novelist John Rothstein, who created a famous character and then stopped publishing, and Morris is angry about what happened to the character and about the silence.
About
Finders Keepers is a crime novel by the American writer Stephen King, published in 2015. It is the second book of a trilogy about the detective Bill Hodges, following Mr Mercedes.
The burglary at the centre of the book takes place in 1978, at the home of a reclusive novelist who is famous for a trilogy of books about a character called Jimmy Gold. Morris Bellamy has read them all repeatedly, and his grievance is about what the author did with the character rather than about money, which is why he forces the writer to open a safe and takes the notebooks he finds there as well as the cash.
Bellamy hides what he has taken and is then imprisoned for another crime entirely, and the novel jumps forward to the point where the notebooks are found by somebody else. The consequences are handled by Bill Hodges, with his assistants Holly Gibney and Jerome Robinson, which is how the book connects to the rest of the trilogy. King has said that the writer in the story is a composite of several American novelists he admired.
